About Wordpress

Wordpress is an award winning system that anyone can use to bring their content to the web. It offers tons of native functionality and a host of plug-in built to add component style feature sets. Wordpress can be used by experienced users and novice users alike.

Posts system

Wordpress posts system originally was created to support a blogging function but has evolved to be a critical part of the content management process.

Pages system

wordpress allow you to create pages and manage them. the pages system is dynamic and saves revisions automatically, assign to parent pages and so on. the pages system creates the site menu on the fly.

Tags

Tags are the link between your post and other elements of Wordpress. You use a keyword as the tag and then later at the post itself you connect the tag to the post.

Dashboard – know your CMS

The dashboard is a main component of the admin panel and is typically front and center. It has a compact summary view of all of the wordpress pieces.

Media library – manage your videos, images and files

The media Library is a repository of media elements you will use when creating pages, posts or other pieces of your Wordpress site. You can add elements to it on the fly when trying to insert media in other places in wordpress.

Links and link categories

Links allow you to add linkages to other web sites or other places on the web. You can list the links in groups using a Link Category (different than Post Categories, but similar in concept). The Link menu option is on the left just below Media Library and selecting it gives you the list of links which you can select to edit them.

Comments management system

many content management systems provides comments systems and most of them very good. wordpress also offer one and it is amazing! it have a powerful filtering comments system, any spam plugins, filter by user, ip and so on…

Themes and design changes

WordPress Themes rock! you can have many themes on your system and switch between them with one click. so you can have one theme as a basic one. another theme for holidays, another for special times and so on.

Installing and managing plugins

Plugins are a great way to expand your Wordpress site’s functionality for free or for a nominal fee. Searching for plugins is very easy! You can go directly to the Wordpress plugins directory located at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ and locate a plugin you would like to use.

Widgets management

Widgets are located under the appearance menu at left and allow you to deploy pieces of code that can perform specific functions. They are intended to expand your theme’s functionality, and they tend to manifest themselves as “sidebars” on the right or left of your site.

Import and export content

WordPress allow you to import content from another blogging platforms such as blogger, Dotclear and many more. the process to import the content is few clicks and you done!

Wordpress upgrade

Wordpress is highly configurable and allows you to set many elements that will affect site and admin functioning.

Settings -> Discussion

The Discussion page will allow you to config rules related to comments on your site. Click on the “Discussion” link under settings and you will find many options. Each option have few words beside it which make sense so there is no real need to explain.

Settings -> Media

This is the section where you can set the standard sizes for images for your site and Wordpress will automatically scale for you. All you have to do is select a size (small, medium or large) when inserting the image and wordpress will do the rest – according to your rules set here.

Main Menu (left Panel)

The main way almost any function is accessed in wordpress is via the main menu that is ever present on the left hand side. The headers are are also links to the functions they name, and under the headers are specific links to specific functions such as “Add New”.
